A BRADFORD footballer has helped his team reach the Premier League.

Kayden Jackson, a former amateur player at Albion Sports, is part of the Ipswich Town squad who have just won promotion from the Championship.

The Tractor Boys secured their passage to the top flight by beating Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Portman Road.

It means Leeds United, who lost 2-1 to Southampton on the day at Elland Road, will now have to pin their Premier League hopes on the playoffs.

Jackson's Bradford roots

It was back in 2013 when Jackson won a nationwide competition to sign a professional contract with League One Swindon Town.

The 19-year-old, from Argent Way in Tong Street, beat more than 5,500 entrants to win Samsung’s Win A Pro Contract competition.

At the time, he said: “When I found out I’d won, the feeling was indescribable. It was a mixture of shock and joy.

"The quality of players in the competition was very good, but I concentrated on my own game at every stage.”

A career up and down the divisions

The striker went on to play for the likes of Wrexham, Barnsley, and Accrington Stanley before arriving at Ipswich in 2018.

A pivotal player in their League One promotion campaign last season, Jackson also made his fair share of appearances this term.

The 30-year-old came off the bench in his side's victory over Huddersfield.
