A BRADFORD popstar is to perform his first-ever solo headline show.

Zayn Malik, who grew up in East Bowling, is preparing for his upcoming album 'Room Under the Stairs' which will be out later this month.

On the day of its release (May 17), the 31-year-old will perform at the 2,000-capacity Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.

He will perform a selection of songs from the new album with his performance following the world premiere of the ‘Road Back To The Mic’ documentary.

It comes eight years after Malik pulled out of a headline slot at Capital’s Summertime Ball minutes before going on stage.

He had played a short set at Wango Tango festival earlier in 2016 and also sang on The Voice USA.

He had not performed since then though.

The performance will come ten years after his last full-length concert in the UK, when he played on One Direction’s Where We Are tour.

Zayn: 'My favourite album to date'

The new album marks his most personal release to date, reflecting where he is in life, while exploring the complexities of healing, stillness, and growth.

He said: “This is my favourite album that I've made to date, mainly because it comes from a place of sheer honesty and vulnerability.

"I wanted each song to feel as if it was just me sitting beside you telling you how I feel, singing directly to you.

"It’s raw and stripped back and the type of music I always hoped to make.”

He added: “I think just being where I was at that time, staying away from things and living with my own thoughts inspired me to want to write something from that place.

"I’ve got to put this out as a whole body of work, it’s something for myself, not even just for the world."

To gain access to tickets, fans must pre-order 'Room Under the Stairs'.
