  • A former soldier has come to the rescue of three plaques which honour soldiers of the First World War and have been removed from a church. The plaques were in Silsden Methodist Church which has been demolished to make way for a new chapel.
  • A long distance runner has returned home with his 62nd medal after completing the New York Marathon for a third time. Joginder Singh, 56, of East Bowling, has taken part in more than 60 marathons and half-marathons during the past 16 years.
  • Children in Holmewood planted trees in a newly-developed natural play area. Youngsters at nearby Knowleswood Primary School dug in to plant the trees at The Valley, which was finished earlier this year. It was the final stage in developing the play area.
  • Estonian pop sensation Hannah hit the high notes in Bradford. The patriotic singer, full name Hannah Ild, performed her latest single for pupils at Challenge College. She is in the country on a tour of schools to break into the UK’s music scene.
  • A new play area has been officially opened. 
Residents and children joined in the ceremony at Townfield in Wilsden, followed by refreshments in the village hall.
  • Visitors to Otley Chevin can now enjoy a trip through time thanks to some eye-catching new chainsaw sculptures. The work of Shane Green is well-known to thousands of walkers in the forest park.
  • These girls were among those who took a closer look at the night sky when a planetarium paid a visit to their school. 
Moorfield School in Ilkley dispensed with normal lessons to enjoy extra-terrestrial activities in a galaxy-themed week.
  • Children at a Bradford primary school were entertained by a visiting trio of Indian dancers. Keelham Primary, in Denholme Gate, welcomed the Halifax-based Annapurna Indian Dance Group to perform in front of the whole school in authentic dress.
  • Mother and daughter team, Jennie Webster, as Fairy Nuff, and Jo Clayton, as the Wicked Witch, will be fighting it out on stage this December in the Burley Millennium Theatre Group’s pantomime, Babes in the Wood.
  • Youngsters were shown how to build a Mongolian-style yurt in preparation for a festival about global issues.
  • A set of rare badges reflecting one of the most turbulent times in trades union history is to be auctioned to raise cash for cancer sufferers.
  • A charity circus rolled up to raise both smiles and money for Bradford’s Marie Curie Hospice. 
As part of its 2009 tour the Circus Starr was at the La Liga Soccer Centre, in Bradford, to perform two shows featuring its mix of acrobatics and comedy.
  • Artist Simeon Wayne Barclay has re-enacted a historic journey in a box from Bradford to Leeds as part of Black History Month.
In 1851 American citizen Henry ‘Box’ Brown made the journey between the two cities in a box.
  • Teenagers raced the clock during a go-kart time trial session at Buttershaw Youth Club in Bradford.
