Older Citizens Advocacy York

If you are over 50 and sometimes feel nobody is listening to you properly or you are daunted by dealing with organisations such as the health service or the council, then help is at hand. Older Citizens Advocacy York (OCAY) is a charity which helps older people to resolve crises and problems, no matter how small.
Since OCAY started in 2001, our staff and volunteer advocates have helped over 2000 people to find information and get services they need, such as benefits and housing and resolve other various problems.
Older Citizens Advocacy York (OCAY) has been set up by older people for people like you to ensure that you have a voice which is heard. Advocacy simply means supporting people to speak up for themselves when there is something they want to say.
We can provide a lot of information about services, benefits and assessments. We also provide volunteer advocates to support you during interviews, health appointments or assessments, or simply to make sure your point of view is listened to and respected.
The service at OCAY is free and confidential and independent of the statutory services such as the council, health and social services, which means we can challenge decisions if you are not happy with them.
So if there is something you need to deal with but are unsure who can help, ask OCAY. No problem is too small. If it concerns you we will try to help.
We would also love to hear from anyone who is interested in joining our management committee or as an advocate or fundraiser.
