A FUN filled cycling day to continue the cycling theme in the wake of the Tour de Yorkshire is taking place in Bradford and you don’t even need a bike to take part.

Bradford City Cycle is an event for all ages and abilities to cycle on traffic-free streets in the city centre.

The route takes in large parts of the centre including around the Broadway, City Park and Darley Street.

The action takes place on Sunday, May 14, between 11am and 3pm.

Showing off their prowess on two wheels, Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Geoff Reid and Lady Mayoress Chris Reid went along to the pre-launch in Centenary Square.

“Its’ good to be able to support events like this and the idea is to get people to ‘think Bradford, think cycling’,” said Cllr Reid.

“It is one of those sports. not least through the recent leg of the Tour de Yorkshire, where Bradford is becoming a regional hub,” he added.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, how old your bike is, or how fast you can ride, the Bradford City Cycle will be a fun filled day for all.

People can join the ride anywhere along the route which is 2.5 miles long and can do as many laps as they like. All those taking part will receive a hi-vis tabard to keep, to help them to stay safe in the future.

There will be lots of family activities in The Hub which will be in City Park with entertainment including a climbing tower, bungee trampolines and music in the mirror pool area.

Professional trail bike rider Jack Carthy from Haworth, the reigning UCI World Champion and World Cup winner will be demonstrating his amazing skills throughout the day.

David Robison, from Bradford Capital of Cycling will bring a selection of bikes for people to come and have a go on including nostalgic 1970s favourite the Raleigh Chopper and weird and wonderful contraptions.

At the launch he introduced a trike disguised as a ram to depict Yorkshire’s sheep-grazed countryside. He was joined by Bradford Cycling Club members Satwant Singh and Taras Stefanyszyn and Naz Ali, of the youth service.

Those without bikes can still take part as members of Bradford Council’s Youth Service will be bringing some machines for free use on the day. Some of these will be adapted bikes for people with disabilities.
