Laisterdyke around 1970
Those who lived their life in Bradford 40 years or so ago might never have even known about this ‘advertisement’ for the city on top of the gasholder at the Birkshall Gasworks near Sticker Lane, Laisterdyke.
The proud ‘Bradford’ painted on the circular gas store was apparently a marker for the benefit of aircraft passing over, or perhaps on their way to the airport at Yeadon.
This picture is from the archives of CH Wood, and one of a number of fascinating aerial shots that show the city from a not-often-seen vantage point, especially at the time of this photograph, which was around 1970.
