25 years ago: The Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police, Peter Wright, offered his resignation after the initial inquiry into the Hillsborough disaster placed the blame firmly on the shoulders of his senior officers.
50 years ago: Ten year-old Debbie Jonas, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, in the USA, flew 4,500 miles unaccompanied to London to visit her grandmother, Mrs R. Lachs, of Ashburnham Grove, Bradford, for a three-week visit, her first ever trip to the UK.
