A dramatic fire had destroyed the former Debenham’s department store in Manningham Lane, Bradford. Nearly one hundred firemen from all over West Yorkshire had attempted to tackle the blaze which had left the listed Victorian building in a heap of smouldering rubble. As thousands of people gathered smoke and flames billowed high above the once famous Busby’s department store until it was a twisted pile of hot rubble. For most Bradfordians all that was now left was a heart filled with fond memories of the store that had once occupied the stunning building from the 1930s until 1978.
