Another Zeppelin raid had taken place as six or seven enemy airships raided the Eastern and South-Eastern Countries shortly after midnight. A considerable number of bombs had been dropped, but no further details were available. Anti-aircraft guns were in action, and at least one airship appeared to have been hit. Residents and visitors alike watched the attack with great interest. Staff from the German Headquarters had also issued a fantastic account of the Somme battle, in which they put the British losses at 230,000 men, and the total Allied losses at 350,000.
