Stuart McCall has tapped in to his Rangers connections to lure a promising midfield starlet to Valley Parade.

City have moved to bring in Dean Furman on a five-month loan deal to add competition to the team’s engine room.

The 20-year-old South African is rated highly at Ibrox and Walter Smith is keen for him to pick up some first-team experience.

Furman has made only one senior appearance - for 38 minutes as a substitute against Dundee United at the end of last season - but he was frequently involved on the Rangers bench.

Good news. We certainly need the competition in midfield. Well done Stuart.

excellent signing: this surely means that Topp is totally surplus to requirements and perhaps the directors can organise a loan back to the 3rd division Belgian club from whence he came and get them to take on his wages--- somehow I don't think they would be willing to do that having taken a nice earner for a player with next to no expoerience anywhere.

Perhaps SM will be honest to say that Topp has no future at the club!! other managers say it to their players .

Tyker! Why such a downer on our little Willy? The poor lad has had little opotunity to shine and I think should be given the chance before we decide to dispatch him to pastures new. At least 6 starts. Maybe on the right where he impressed in pre season. Colbeck isn't at full flow at the moment so lets give the kid a chance!!

Why on earth would the loan signing of a central midfield player mean that Willy has had it at VP? We need a full squad and Topp is part of that squad. I can;t think of anyone else I'd rather have snapping at Thorne and Boulding's heels.

Great news, i thik Stuart's been reading my posts!!! have been winging we've needed another central midfielder, my mates a big Gers fan and travels up most weekends, he says this lad is really well thought of up there. I would imagine part of the agreement is that he has to start a certain % of games, so looks like Bullock or Mclaren will drop to bench, on form so far it should be Mclaren but i bet it's not!!

Youngliver... spot on.... we need all the competition we can get, strength in depth is something that was lacking last season, and another loan central midfielder is fantastic news! Topp is 3rd choice striker now surely, he will defo have a future at VP, his chance will come!

Big Will would only ever be 3rd choice striker if my Grandad weren't fit - send him back (thats Willy, not my Grandad)!! What do you mean he hasn't had chances ?? Ashley Ward's reputation as being the most pointless striker ever to wear Claret n Amber is under serious threat ! Maybe Willy does have talent ; can he juggle, balance a chair on his chin, or do impersonations of famous people ??

Furman on the other hand, sounds like a great prospect - nice one Macca !!

have you seen some imiginary games we haven't cos nobody can say that Topp has been given a chance at all...he has been brought in in 1 (YEAH A MASSIVE 1)game this season away at Macc Town and even though he didn't have much to do he generally look lively...must be 3rd choice ahead of Conlon so why would he have no future??? NUGGET!!

Dont know much about this Furman but sounds promising - hopefully McCall hasn't agreed that he plays a %age of game cos how can he surely play what he thinks to be his strongest team if he isn't picking it from 1 to 11??? not knocking the guy but worth a thought, obviously if he's better then we have then he should play anyway.

Cant wait for saturday and tuesday...COME ON CITY!!!!

G-dot, Willy may have only made one appearance this season, but he made plenty of appearances last season (where were you ??). He came on as sub on numerous occasions since being signed, and had opportunities to shine, when the rest of the players on the pitch had tired legs, and he didn't shine, in fact he never looked like he fit into teh side at all. Macca put him in the starting line-up on occasions, and still he made no impact and was sub'ed. At what point will you realise that he isn't the right type of footballer for this league !! Its no good playing like Brazil, if the rest of your team play like Bradford City !

its obvious and been admitted by many he wasn't fit last seasons oa gain how can he be judged on that?? Y

willy topp is finished!

he was a director signed player for a record fee after administration;he only played a hand ful of games in very junior Chilean soccer and scored, from memory, only once.

the deal to sign him was mired and needed a second opinion from the FA. It now turns out he was unfit with medical problems which should have been assessed and picked up with vigorous medical research and it is evident that SM does not rate him.

so he will hardly ever feature here again and all those agents expecting a big move and generous cash as well as Topping are going to be very very disappointed.

He will either see out his contract to teh end of this season or leave by mutual consent as he and his agents will just get fed up.

So in conclusion --a total waste of a transfer fee and wages which are probably not small!!

main beneficiaries are Topping, the agents and the player:main losers -- the club!!
