City’s answer to Usain Bolt is concentrating on what he does best.

Omar Daley is well aware of the need to work on his defensive game but the Jamaican paceman insists terrorising teams going forward is always his top priority.

He said: “For me, going forward – that’s my aim. I need to get goals and create and going forward takes a lot of energy.

“Defending is not a problem for me but you don’t expect me to make a 60-yard run to attack and then make a 30-yard run to defend.

“I think I’m doing much better in defence than last season and I’m trying to concentrate and hopefully bring an end product to my game.”

After a dip in form in the second half of last season, the 27-year-old has started the campaign in fine style.

He almost scored a candidate for goal of the season against Notts County when he ran half the length of the pitch and beat three men before his shot was turned past the post.

Daley said: “I was a bit unlucky but I know it’s going to come sooner or later.

“I’d really like to have got that one. It would have given me a real boost but at least I’m getting in those positions – that’s good for my confidence.

“Pace is good and I have to keep doing that in every game but it’s not all about that – you have to think about it as well.

“It’s been a very good start – not just for me but for the team.

“The club is developing every day and just getting better. I think players are more relaxed now and just doing what they do best.”

Daley was glued to his television in midweek to watch his fellow countryman pick up his second Olympic gold medal in record-breaking style in the 200 metres.

“It gave me a boost and showed me that you can be the best if you put your mind to it,” he said.

“It was pretty special for a small country like Jamaica.”

Daley did not travel with the Jamaican squad for their World Cup qualifier with Canada in Toronto on Wednesday which finished 1-1.
