Stuart McCall might not be as overjoyed as some City fans are with the plum first-round tie at neighbours Leeds United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

The Bantams boss knows only too well what it would mean to the supporters to go to Elland Road and beat the team they love to hate.

But he is still smarting from last week’s 4-0 defeat to City’s other West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield and is wary of the same thing happening again.

He said: “Nothing would give me more pleasure to go to Huddersfield or Leeds on a level playing field in the same league with a simliar side – but they (Leeds) are favourites to win the championship in the division above us and they’ve got a lot of good players.

“People say you’ve nothing to lose as nobody expects you to do anything but there is a lot to lose if you go there and capitulate like we did at Huddersfield.

“I’m not saying that’s going to happen again but I’m aware of the pitfalls that could lie ahead at this time.”

He continued: “Last Tuesday hurt me, and at the back of my mind I don’t want that hurt again.

“I know what the supporters felt. It hurt me to know how much hurt they were going through with ten minutes to go and we’re 4-0 down at our rivals.”

While fans might be licking their lips at the first meeting between the sides for over seven years, the fact is City have been handed arguably the hardest tie possible in a competition which, according to joint chairman Julian Rhodes, they genuinely want to do well in.

To progress they will have to do what they only once did during either of McCall’s spells as a Bantams player – win at Elland Road.

The lone success was in the Full Members’ Cup in 1986-87, City triumphing 1-0 after extra time, Greg Abbott netting.

One of the City legend’s lowest points in a claret and amber shirt came the last time the sides met there when they were thrashed 6-1 in their penultimate game before relegation from the Premier League.

His bloody face was plastered all over the papers the following day after a clash with his own team-mate Andy Myers as frustration got the better of them.

Of course, the mood around the camp is a lot more upbeat this time following a maximum points start in the league.

City fans have no need to worry that McCall will have his players going into the clash – scheduled for September 2 – with nothing but positive thoughts.

He said: “I would maybe be in a different frame of mind if it weren’t for the Huddersfield game. And rest assured there will be no negative thoughts when the tie comes round. ”

Joe Colbeck, Kyle Nix and TJ Moncur will be signing posters between noon and 1pm.

I really thought we would win at town with the negativety they showed towards the appointment of Stan Ternant, I could see the headlines in their local paper the following day. The fact we had league 1 players in our team strenghtened my thoughts.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing and it was far to early to have expected the team to have gelled so soon and get such a result, against a favoured team in that league. If it was after say 6 league wins on the bounce then maybe it might have been different?

Well I will enjoy Leeds as much as I enjoyed Huddersfield up to half time and I am sure we will take a massive following. Others teams across the country will take note of our following in such a Mickey Mouse cup and would like to congratulate the support before it happens.

By the way does anyone think sensible is dead?

Back again. Glad some of you could visit the decent sports section of this site to have a chat. Just to answer some of your questions. Didn't run away from any discussion when the "heat" was on. Please explain what you were on about for the rest of the post as Zwahili was not a subject I studied at school.
Mr Viking it is not just City I am slating it is the game in general. Admitedly it is the Premiership that really is overpaid, dull and predictable but the game as a whole needs a massive revamp. They are still playing in goals that were measured for folk that were 4 ft 6 back in the dark ages. Put another 1 ft on either side and maybe six inches on top and the game might start to look a bit more interesting. Yes therewill be loads of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors Headmaster from Undercliffe. Oh and by the way you look so tough Stu with your **** scratches

I actually saw him at City on 15 June as he said he would be there and I looked for him. He was swanking with his Bentley and put it next to Mark's. Obviously has a bob or two, must have seeing the bird he was with, unless they were with his Minder.

it may seem reasonable to have a go at a football hater but it is not acceptable to "big up" the Rhino's on a Bradford site.

if oddshape balls doesn't like football then just ignore him. As far as i am concerned, Bradford is my home and Bradford is my pride; I don't care what the game is. Up the bantams and up the bulls!!

oddshapeballs; please get a life. your comments about the premier league are understandable but the posters on this site are as passionate about true football as it is possible to be. I love the bulls and I love City but the reality is that football is a much better game and that is why Billions of people pay to watch it and only thousands of people are willing to pay to watch Rugby (whichever code you argue for).

Gspot,

I think you will find that the sh1te being talked is by yourself. Bradford do not have any court case going on with Leeds. Please study your facts before looking a fool

Look Rugby is a minority sport and rugby league even smaller than Union. Go to your cave and stay there.
