Birkbeck gives Fastbats hope
Brian Birkbeck handed Fastbats A a Division Two lifeline by leading them to a key Bradford League victory at Embassy B.
Fastbats needed a win to climb above their relegation rivals and out of the play-off equation and achieved their goal 6-4.
The first six sets were shared, with Mark Jackson taking two and Ziggy Cwiklinski winning one for Embassy.
But Fastbats finished strongly with Birkbeck unbeaten, Johnny Giles winning two and Greg Hill one.
This lifted Fastbats two points ahead of Embassy but, with one match to go, the issue is still in the balance.
Meanwhile, Division Four champions elect Unity D came perilously close to losing their unbeaten record at home to Rastrick.
The visitors led 3-1 and 5-3, with Mick Whitham and Terry Bostock both winning two, before Steve Worseman's 100 per cent record was threatened in the last singles as Bostock took a 2-0 lead.
But Worseman hit back to force a decider in which he squeezed home 13-11 and then joined Bill Sugden to take the doubles for a share of the spoils.
