Fresh from her success at the Gateshead and Whickham Burns Meet, City of Bradford's Sian Morgan competed for the first time in the gruelling 1500 metre freestyle at the Yorkshire Swimming Association's Senior and Junior Championships at the John Charles Centre For Sport in Leeds.

And she added the event to her tally of national qualifying times for the National Youth Championships later this summer.

Swimming as a 15 and under, Morgan claimed silvers in the 1500m open and the girls' under-15 event and bronzes in the equivalent 800m events.

Breaststroke swimming was the order of the day when Luke Constantine and David Brown both featured in the 50m events, claiming second and third places respectively in the junior category.

Cononley's Jenna Chatburn finished in the bronze-medal position in the women's open and junior girls' 50m breaststroke and was sixth in the women's 100m event.

Ilkley's Ben Balmforth was the only other medallist with a bronze in the junior boys' 100m breaststroke.

Michael Bonson claimed top-ten places in the men's open events, with a fourth-place finish in the 800m freestyle and ninth places in the 1500m event and the 400m individual medley.

Last year's national qualifier Lucy Burnside finished eighth in the junior girls' 200m butterfly and ninth in the 50m freestyle.

Sian Freeman claimed ninth place in the women's open 50m breaststroke and the final place of the weekend went to the women's 4x50m freestyle team of Freeman, Burnside, Megan Bowes Ayres and Rosemary Preston, who came tenth.
