BRIGHOUSE-based coach Steve McLoughlin tonight spoke of his pride at the efforts of his Leeds Beckett University team in the Hunters National Premier League finals at David Lloyd Leeds.

They were expected to reach tomorrow's quarter-finals as the sixth seeds but in the end were only a tie-break away from achieving that.

Having beaten Graves Sheffield 4-0, Leeds Beckett needed to defeat Edgbaston Priory to go through but, after tying with them 2-2 in rubbers, Nick Eeckelaers and Jordan Reed-Thomas lost the deciding super tie-break 10-4 to Mason Recci and Gary Thomson.

McLoughlin said: "Overall, I was very pleased with my team's efforts. They competed very well but the opposition (Edgbaston Priory) also played very well and deserved to go through.

"But we are one of the most successful sports teams at the university and we still have the AEGON Premier League to go for."

Edgbaston Priory, who also needed a super tie-break to win their first match against Graves Sheffield (winning it 12-10), will play second seeds Cardiff Met University, who have former Wimbledon doubles champion Jonny Marray and 20126 Wimbledon hero Marcus Willis in their nominated squad, in the quarter-finals.

Seventh seeds Virgin Active Wearside, who won both their group matches 4-0, will meet top-seeded Queen's Club, who have Dominic Inglot in their squad.

The Great Britain Davis Cup player warmed up by winning the ATP World Tour event in Marrakesh, Morocco today, partnering Croatia's Mate Pavic to a 6-4, 2-6, 11-9 victory over second-seeded Spaniards Marcus Granollers and Marc Lopez in the final.

Also through at the Moortown venue are fifth seeds Millfield School, who include 2016 AEGON British Tour Ilkley runner-up Nicholas Brookes.

Millfield, who, like Wearside, haven't dropped a rubber, will play third seeds Gosling.

Fourth seeds Roehampton were still waiting for their opponents to be confirmed.

The quarter-finals will start tomorrow at 10am and 11.30am, with the semi-finals beginning at 6pm and 7.30pm.

The final is scheduled for Easter Monday at 2pm.
