SISTERS Hardija and Kristela Vidnere have dominated Heaton Tennis Club’s Closed Championship for the second successive year.

Hardija, who is 15, defeated 18-year-old Kristela in a hard-fought women's singles, winning the second set 7-5, and younger sister Hardija also won the mixed doubles with 18-year-old Jevannie Ambrose, and retained the women's doubles crown with Kristela.

Meanwhile, Harry Ward won the men's singles and, with Ambrose, the men's doubles.

The tournament ran across two weeks, and the atmosphere was great on finals day, while the standard of play, particularly among the younger players, was high.

Adding to the spectacle were the ball crew, who were resplendent in their t-shirts donated by club sponsors Manningham Concrete.

Tennis chairman Don Stewart said: “There was great tennis from all ages all the way through the two weeks.

"I look forward to seeing the club’s youngsters progress and would welcome newcomers of all ages to join us to play tennis all year round at Heaton."

The club runs regular coaching sessions from beginners to the more advanced players, and offers group and individual lessons.
