KATIE Ormerod launched her FIS Big Air World Cup campaign with a silver medal in Milan.

The 20-year-old from Brighouse, one of Great Britain's top hopes for a snowboarding medal at next year's Winter Olympics, led going into the final run but could not improve on her score and was pipped to the title by Austria's world champion Anna Gasser.

Ormerod finished with a score of 143.25 and will hope to go one better when the series moves on to Beijing later this month.

Team-mate Aimee Fuller failed the qualify for the final after finishing 16th in qualifying.
