NEW-look Bingley Bees showed great battling qualities but ultimately lost 4-2 at home to Leeds Adel 3rds in Division Two of the Yorkshire Hockey League.

The Bees women, who are bedding in a number of new players, had a shaky start and Adel capitalised to go ahead after just two minutes.

Yet the hosts quickly regrouped and, after some excellent passing, a great solo run by captain Rachael Holdsworth led to her slotting home an equaliser moments later.

The remainder of the first half was played out end to end, although Adel created the majority of chances and broke the stalemate with a strong strike from a short corner as they edged 2-1 ahead just prior to the interval.

The Bees changed their formation and came out fighting, with new goalkeeper Jess Milnes making several great saves on her senior debut.

Adel did manage to slot one past her against the run of play to make it 3-1 – but Bingley hit back again with a great attack which led to a goal by Anna Bowker.

The Bees continued to dominate the second half but unfortunately Adel took a late opportunity to kill off the contest with their fourth goal.
