BINGLEY Bees were hoping to repeat their cup final win of last season when they faced Boston Spa Seconds at Bradford Grammar School in Yorkshire Men's Division Four.

The hosts made a good start but Spa took the lead against the run of play in the 13th minute.

The Bees hit back four minutes later with a trademark goal from Stephen Booth, who deflected the ball in from a smart short-corner routine.

But the visitors regained the advantage just before half-time and added two more goals in the first five minutes of the second half, a fifth then following 21 minutes after the break.

Gavin Waddell reduced the deficit to 5-2 with six minutes left but in general Bingley had failed to take advantage of good scoring opportunities.

In the Men's Development League North, the Bees' second team slumped 10-0 against a skilful and well-structured Harrogate Sevenths at Bradford Girls' Grammar School.

The inexperienced Bees, although creating some attacking opportunities and working hard in midfield, were under pressure for large portions of the match.

In the Yorkshire Women's Premier Division, Bingley lost 4-1 at City of York Seconds, while the second team defeated Barnsley 4-3 at Bradford Grammar School in Division Four.
