BRADFORD Hockey Club's under-11s have gone from cellar dwellers to heroes in a remarkable climb up the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League pyramid.

They started the county championship in Division Four back in May but worked their way through the sections to win the Division One finals at Weetwood in Leeds last Sunday.

In a cut-throat league system, the top two teams in each round-robin division of five were promoted and the bottom two teams were relegated, so scoring goals and keeping it tight at the back were paramount, with Bradford needing to show a great attitude and commitment every weekend.

Among the teams they saw off were Halifax, Driffield, Thirsk, Harrogate, Rotherham, Northallerton, Chapeltown and Bridlington.

In the top flight, Bradford defeated York A 1-0, Leeds 3-1, York B 4-1 and Sheffield 4-0, and were presented with their trophy and certificates by 2013 winners York.?Bradford Hockey Club are keen to welcome new members for training or coaching, and further details are available from secretary Lesley Welch at secretary@bradfordhockeyclub.org.uk or via the club website at www.bradfordhockeyclub.org.uk.
