Tom Adams notched his fourth victory in five years in the traditional Easter Sunday GUISELEY GALLOP.

His time of 33min 59sec over the multi-terrain 10K was the fastest since Ian Fisher in 2008.

Scott Harrington (Otley) was a clear second, two minutes back, with Chris Miller (Harrogate) and Kevin Ogden (Spenborough) next in a spread-out top five.

Donna Edmondson (Idle) was first lady in 42min 2sec (38th overall). Jenny Beaumont, from host club Skyrac, continued her recent excellent form to be third in 43:38.

All 462 finishers enjoyed a bottle of ale at the finish.

The Guiseley Gallop is the second of 17 off-road races in the Airedale Athletics Inter-Club Summer Challenge.

Excellent individual performances at Guiseley included not only Beaumont but Eccleshill's James Goodall (16th overall in 39:21), category winners Peter Hughes (Queensbury), Claire Greenwood (Baildon) and Jack Verity for Saltaire Striders.

Other clubs were equally successful: Rachel Carter and Adela Reperecki were both first in their categories for Ilkley Harriers.

The LISTER PARK PARKRUN on Saturday morning had another big turnout. Will Kerr (Saltaire) recorded another win, ahead of 427 others.

Meanwhile, Jamil Parapia (Otley) ran an impressive 16min 32sec at the far flatter HARROGATE STRAY PARKRUN.

Several new running groups are set to launch. Ilkley Harriers are organising a six-week course for beginners, starting on Tuesday, May 6 from Ilkley Lawn Tennis club.

Called the ZERO TO 5K CHALLENGE, it costs just £10 for the six sessions, each one at 7pm for an hour. More details at www.ilkleyharriers.co.uk.

Queensbury Running Club are setting up a similar group for new runners in BD13 and BD14. Further details from Holly Williams (holjwilliams@ googlemail.com).

The summer’s ENHANCED TRAINING 17-session block starts tomorrow night and continues on Mondays at Bradford Grammar School at 7pm (www.sportsshare.org/et).

In the lead-up to the Tour de France, the Active Bradford Partnership’s quarterly seminar focuses on TOURISM, SPORT AND ACTIVE LEISURE.

Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, who captured the Grand Départ for Yorkshire, is one of a dozen impressive speakers.

The conference at UAK School, Keighley lasts from 9am to 1.30pm on Friday, May 30.
