Tom Adams (Ilkley Harriers) has been selected for England in the International Snowdon Race at Llanberis on July 21.

The Baildon-based off-road specialist teams up with Andi Jones (Salford), Tom Addison (Helm Hill) and Rob Baker from Sheffield’s Dark Peak Fell Runners.

The national women’s team comprises a West Yorkshire trio of Katie Walshaw (Holmfirth) and Calder Valley pair Holly Page and Helen Fines.

Ilkley’s Angela Eagle returned to the Alps to celebrate reaching fifty. She ran the Marathon du Mont Blanc.

She achieved a podium finish, being second over-50 lady.

The long, high-altitude climbs, heat and slippery uphill finish took a toll as she ran 6hr 15min.

“I had forgotten how hard this race is and I was very pleased to finish”, she said.

A flurry of races mark the summer season. Ilkley’s Jack Wood won Wednesday’s Murder Mile in Silsden in 7min 25sec, ahead of 225 others.

The same evening saw 46 teams take part in a three-leg relay around the Danefield plantation. Several scratch teams took part.

“Pigeons in Flight” comprising John Armistead, Rogan Ashton and Colin Walker flew away with the prize in 64min 18sec. Third team and first club were Saltaire Striders, comprising James Rush, Jack Verity and Will Kerr.

The second running of the Heptonstall Festival Race drew 111 finishers on Saturday.

It is a short, adrenaline-rush of a route, initially dropping 500 feet before climbing 1000 feet in two miles to High Brown Knoll.

A quick loop on the moor follows, before returning to the ancient village the way you came, meaning a 500ft climb in the last mile.

Christopher Smale (Bingley Harriers) was the winner of this 9.5km race (with 496m overall ascent) in 52min 9sec.

Monday saw a team from Airedale Athletics teaming up with Age Concern to promote physical exercise and running in Bradford’s Centenary Square.

Before a downpour curtailed the event, many new people signed up to join beginners’ training groups, or a club for the 16-25 age-group.
