Two thousand runners pounded the pavements and hills around Bradford district in the city’s first ever half-marathon.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Peter Hill, sounded the starting klaxon at 9am yesterday to mark the start of the Bradford City Run.

It was the first time the city had hosted a half-marathon and followed last year’s successful ten-mile road race.

The course started near the Alhambra and took a scenic route to Denholme and Sandy Lane before finishing in Lister Park, Manningham.

As well as the main 13.2 mile race there was a four-person relay, a 5km fun run and two children’s races of 3km and 1km.
