WEST Yorkshire's teams had mixed fortunes at the Yorkshire & Humberside Regional Sportshall Athletics finals in Halifax.

The West Yorkshire Tykes under-11 boys and girls squads won their respective events, and the under-13 boys were in a class of their own in qualifying for the United Kingdom finals at Sport City in Manchester on April 16-17.

However, the under-13 girls' team didn't make it, losing by 48 points to North Yorkshire, while the under-15 boys and under-15 girls didn't qualify either, being hampered by holidays, injuries or simply failing to turn up on the day.

West Yorkshire's under-11 boys totalled 498 points to North Yorkshire's 481, taking the over-under relay, one plus one lap, four by one lap and Grand Prix relays.

George Hahn (St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Bingley) backed up his staggering seven victories in the West Yorkshire trial at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre by winning the standing long jump and chest push, Sam Bentley (Burley Oaks) took the speed bounce and Dan Logan (Baildon Church of England) the standing triple jump, and Harrison Oddie (Ashlands, Ilkley) the balance test.

The West Yorkshire girls bettered the boys' tally with 506 points to end up 34 clear of North Yorkshire, winning the over-under, one plus one, four by one lap, six-lap Paarlauf, hurdle, two plus two and Grand Prix relays.

Amelia Garnett (Baildon Church of England) took the standing triple jump, and Lisa Tiler (Harden) won the standing long jump.

The dominant under-13 boys took the obstacle, four by one, eight-lap Paarlauf and four by two lap relays, while individual winners included Naeem Usamot (Grange School, two-lap race and vertical jump).

The under-13 girls took the four by two lap relay, while the under-15 boys were let down by two of their seven team members not turning up.

Nevertheless, there were good performances from Ben Adeniji, who was fourth overall in the individual competition.

The under-15 girls only lost to North Yorkshire by ten points, but Lucy Tattersfield (Immanuel College) and Georgia May Codd (Crossley Heath School) were equal first in the individual standings and will therefore go Manchester anyway as individual members.

Lucy won the vertical jump and Georgia the shot out and standing long jump.
