THE Brownlee brothers have been pre-selected for next year's Olympic Games.

Alistair, the 2012 gold medal winner, and bronze medalist Jonny are among four names put forward by British Triathlon's Olympic nomination committee despite their injury-hit season.

Non Stanford and Vicky Holland have been chosen for the women's event after meeting the automatic qualification criteria by winning medals at both the Rio triathlon test event and the world grand final in Chicago.

The Bramhope-based Brownlees were pre-selected based on evidence of their ability to win a medal at the Olympic Games.

Both Alistair and Jonny have won rounds of the ITU World Triathlon Series this year and are both former World Series champions.

"There is nothing bigger in triathlon than the Olympic Games and I'm hugely excited about the year ahead," said Alistair Brownlee.

"This news allows me to structure my winter training with Rio at the forefront of my mind. Knowing that Jonny has been pre-selected with me is another big boost."

Jonny added: "I'll be doing everything I can to be at my absolute best on August 18, 2016.

"Performing on the day in Rio is the dream and it's great to be another step closer to it now that I have been pre-selected."
