TOM Adams won the second West Yorkshire Cross-Country League fixture with a huge gap of 83 seconds over Pudsey & Bramley duo Matt Lockyer and Joshua Norman.

Ilkley Harriers athlete Adams took advantage of minimal Leeds City participation to record 32min 37sec at Fartown in Huddersfield on Sunday.

The 9,020-metre course had one difficult 200m climb on each of the five laps for senior men.

Lee Athersmith, now competing for Wharfedale, was their first runner home in ninth to lead them to a team win.

In the first race of the season at Thorne Park in Wakefield, former Spenborough youngster Joshua Woodcock-Shaw – now turning out for Leeds City – had been victorious. But it looks like a battle between Valley Striders, Wharfedale and Holmfirth for the team prize.

Pudsey & Bramley are clearly targeting this series. In addition to some excellent men's individual performances, their senior ladies are in contention for the team title.

Alex Bell had held off Leeds City pair Claire Duck and Racheal Bamford at Wakefield, with Claire Green, Sian Driscoll and Rachel Pilling all scoring well.

At Fartown, the latter trio were all in the top 20 for Pudsey & Bramley as Katie Walshaw and Helen Berry took top-two places for Holmfirth.

Zara Knappy (Keighley & Craven) finished fifth senior lady and best under-20, Rebecca Cesar de Sa of Skyrac was ninth and Bingley's Sue Becconsall an outstanding 17th, which was by far the fastest over-55.

In the junior races, Ilkley duo Jemima Elgood and Sarah Pickering were third and fourth respectively in the under-17s. Clubmate Dominic Cork was third under-15 and Charlotte Kenneth won the under-11s.

Skyrac had Sebastian Cumming winning the under-11s, Lucien Cumming third in the under-13s and Eve Jones topping the girls' under-13s.

Alex Flaherty, second in the under-13 boys, was the only podium finisher for Bingley but Jake Wallace and Oliver Peace were top five in the under-11s.

Keighley & Craven won the under-11 boys, with Sam Conroy at the head. Their under-11 girls had good performances from Mia Petrucci (third) and Harisah Khafoor (sixth).
