HARRY Holmes Junior, a member of Bradford's best-known race walking family, has died aged 86.
A member of Yorkshire Race Walking Club since the early 1950s, he competed in the Bradford Walk in 1969 with his father, Harry senior – who was competing for the 37th successive year – and 17-year-old son Michael.
Harry junior not only coached Michael as a schoolboy up to national and international level, but led Yorkshire RWC to success in the Bradford and Manchester to Blackpool walks and the Isle of Man TT Course walk.
In 1960, Harry junior qualified as a member of the exclusive Centurions Club, having walked 100 miles in under 24 hours (19hr 31min 08sec), and in 1969 finished second in the TT Walk.
The funeral is at Nab Wood Crematorium tomorrow (2.40pm).
