BINGLEY Harrier Aidan Leach missed out on a gold medal by six hundredths of a second at the National English Schools' Championship at Gateshead International Stadium.

The 18-year-old from Fairweather Green, who was a semi-finalist in the 100 metres, was part of the West Yorkshire senior boys' 4x100m relay squad that were pipped by Norfolk, after West Yorkshire had led the qualifying times with a UK Schools' season's best of 42.07sec.

In what was one of the stand-out finals of the two-day event, West Yorkshire led all of the way until being caught on the line, recording 41.78sec to Norfolk's 41.72. Hampshire were third with 42.18sec.

Leach has run under 11 seconds for 100m, for which he received Bingley Harriers' Performance of the year award, and never missed a training session, despite revising and taking A-Level exams at St Bede's.
