QUEENSBURY'S Chris Williams stormed to a huge lifetime best of 33min 18sec (33:15 chip-timed), and took no less than 1:23 off his Bradford 10K time in 2013, despite the icy Lancastrian roads.

Clitheroe's RIBBLE VALLEY 10K is building a reputation as a super-fast race on the Sunday after Christmas.

Williams avoided the Boxing Day temptation of the Chevin Chase – like training partner Jonny McKenna, who ran 33:48. Matt Nowell of Saltaire clocked 34:50.

Frank Beresford (Otley) had hoped for a personal best but said: "I finished with a time of 32:56, feeling the hills of the Chevin still in my legs.

"Next year I will be only racing one of the two events – I have learnt my lesson!"

John Beattie (Newham & Essex) won in 30:01, ahead of Leeds City duo Derek Hawkins and Simon Deakin. Rebecca Robinson of Kendal was first female in 33:55.

Ilkley's Sally Malir was first over-50s lady in 39:30, while Bingley's evergreen Fred Gibbs was first over-75 in 44:40.

Jamil Parapia (Otley AC), was runner-up in the JOLLY HOLLY JOG around Studley Royal Deer Park on Sunday.

A sell-out, record entry of 704 runners set off in bright, sunny weather but with frosty conditions underfoot on the 10K course as Parapia trailed Leeds City's Mike Burrett by 32 seconds. Burrett won in 34min 12sec.

There was a tie for first lady as Sharon Barlow and Tori Green finished in 40:09, helping host club Ripon Runners to the ladies' team prize.

Two runners were disqualified for wearing headphones, since this prevents hearing traffic or marshals' instructions.

A total of 427 hardy souls survived a biting west wind and deep mud in THE STOOP fell race from Penistone Hill Country Park the previous Sunday over five miles and with 250 metres of climbing.

Tom Adams of Ilkley retained the picture trophy from Simon Bailey and seven-times Stoop winner Rob Hope, making his break on the gentle rise to the standing-stone summit.

British champion Hope ran in fancy dress and won the over-40s category to boot, chased in by Max Wharton and Ian Holmes.
