OTLEY AC members were at Hampden Park supporting Racheal Bamford in the COMMONWEALTH STEEPLECAHSE final. Her seventh-placed 9min 45.51sec was a personal best.

Ursula McGouran said: "We were lucky enough to be there to watch Racheal race and she was magnificent. She kept her head, ran her own race and was closing down Eilish McColgan. She did herself and her local town proud."

The winning Kenyan trio were meanwhile front-page news in Nairobi's The Star newspaper.

This Sunday's WEST YORKSHIRE 5-MILER from Birkenshaw fire station has been postponed to Sunday, August 25. The fire brigade union announced a strike for that day, and the facilities are needed for emergency contingencies.

Race organiser Stephen Wolstenholme apologised to entrants: "I am very sorry for the inconvenience but hope that runners and volunteers appreciate that it is because of circumstances outside my control."

Meanwhile, the BRADFORD CITYRUNS event has been officially launched. The Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal is the prime beneficiary for the race on Sunday, October 26.

Almost half of entry fees go to the charity, which aims to improve discovery and development of new cancer medicines by the University of Bradford.

The race itself is a 5K loop from City Park around the College and University campus.

The multi-lap course offers runners and joggers the chance to take part in either a 5K, 10K or half-marathon run.

New for this year is a children's one-miler along Thornton Road, starting at 9.15am.

As for the recent Tour de France, the roads are closed for the morning, to allow runners and supporters a unique city-centre event.

Runners can get sponsored to run for the Crocus Appeal. Entries are online at racebest.com/races/bradford-city-runs.

The Saturday morning Lister PARKRUN goes from strength to strength with 408 finishers this week. Three weeks ago, Enfield's Alex Milne ran the fifth fastest course time, 16min 19sec.

The weekly 9am run is free but you must pre-register if you have never taken part in a parkrun (www.parkrun.org.uk/bradford).
