A record turnout of 491 runners took part in the 200th Bradford parkrun at Lister Park on Saturday.

Linda Bussey, organiser since the event was launched in 2010, said: "Massive thanks to Saltaire Striders, who did a great job hosting and providing a brilliant range of pacers today. Conditions were perfect for PBs, and how awesome was the cake?"

The pacers aimed for 20, 23, 25, 27, 29, 32 and 36 minutes to lead runners to their target times.

Barney Lerner said it was pure coincidence that Saltaire Striders were hosting the event, but added: "We ordered a birthday cake and organised lots of baking by members."

Mo Mistry was just one of the runners afterwards to congratulate the excellent organisation, while Rachel Parker wrote: "This morning I got to combine three of my favourite things: running, cake and shouting. And all in beautiful sunshine."

Meanwhile, the buzz from the Bradford 10K continues, with several new recreational or beginners' running groups springing up.

One has started at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre, meeting on Tuesdays at 7pm. Another catering for Clayton and Queensbury is due to start soon.

Another is being discussed for Peel Park Ladies. To which end, several Asian mothers have spoken positively of sportswear developed at www.thehijabshop.com/capsters.

Meanwhile, the annual Winter League v Peco League Cross-Country Challenge took place on Sunday.

Six representative teams from each league took part in a three-leg relay. Men and women, open-age, over-40 and over-50 teams joined 21 club or assorted teams in a fun end-of-season melee.

Quentin Lewis from Baildon led off the Winter League men’s open team to victory, followed by Gary Bailey, with Ben Mounsey (Stainland) running the fastest leg of the day (21min 33sec).

Saltaire’s Simon Pass had edged out Lewis over the first leg for the equivalent Peco team, who finished second.

Gavin Mulholland and Nigel Armitage had a substantial lead for the Winter League over-40s until  the final leg, but were overhauled to come third.

Queensbury’s Anna Smith ran an outstanding first leg for the Winter League over-50s to win their category.
