Bradford Grammar School have been crowned Northern Schools Cross-Country champions after success in Trafford, Greater Manchester.

The stand-out performance was from the under-16 boys, who won their event after defeating perennial rivals Manchester Grammar, Ermysted's Grammar and St Anselm’s Preparatory School.

Mike McCartney, Head of Economics and cross-country coach at Bradford Grammar School, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. It is the first time since 1997 that the school has been northern champions.”

Emile Cairess finished first, followed closely by Oliver Daffern in fifth position. Max Duckett was tenth and Pavandeep Sandhar 24th.

In finishing first, Emile defeated the national 1500m champion and completed the ‘triple crown’ by adding the Northern Schools title to earlier victories in the Yorkshire Championships and West Yorkshire Schools.
