MICHAEL Dunlop may have won the six-lap senior race that concluded the 2016 Isle of Man TT – but it was last Wednesday's Supersport race that was still uppermost in the mind of Senior TT runner-up Ian Hutchinson in the post-race press conference.

Dunlop made it 13 wins on the TT Mountain Course by taking the senior race by 31.476 seconds from Bingley's Hutchinson, but commented that he thought it should have been 14 after he was disqualified from that Supersport race.

The Ballymoney rider said that he was unhappy with 'something that happened on Wednesday' but Hutchinson wasn't about to let that comment pass, saying: "I’ve done my best to congratulate Michael all week, but on Wednesday I was pretty disgusted with his behaviour.

“The scrutineers were suspect about something that wasn’t wrong and Michael’s team protested us and then he’s tried to spread a rumour that we had over-sized pistons.

"I need to have a pretty big think about whether I’ll come back to the TT, unless the organisers explain what went on.”

Dunlop denied spreading the rumours, saying: “It was the scrutineer that pointed it out, not me. That’s the way it is, if he wants to bitch at me that’s no problem. I’m a big enough man to take it on the chin and it makes no difference to me.”

TT bosses later confirmed that the top three bikes in Wednesday’s Supersport race were all deemed legal following post-race scrutineering.

However, Hutchinson tweeted over the weekend: "I won't be happy until the scrutineer involved apologises for his incompetence in creating this suspicion!"

Hutchinson, who posted laps of 132.887mph, 133.115mph, 133.080mph and 129.236mph en route to his senior runners-up berth, said: “I’d like thank my Tyco BMW team for a great job this week and BMW Motorrad for all their support.

"We made a few changes for the senior and, apart from a minor problem, the bike was faultless. It’s been a good opening TT on the BMW, with a win and two second places – as well as a few 132 and 133mph laps.

“I tried my best and we were beaten, but we’ve also proved this TT that we have strong pace for the future.

"Looking back at the week, the win on the Superstock bike on Monday proves just how good a package the S1000RR is in standard trim. I just love riding that bike.”

Team manager Philip Neill added: “We can be very happy with our performance this week. TT win number 16 came for TAS Racing; two more Superbike podiums and Hutchy winning the award (Joey Dunlop TT Championship Trophy) as the most successful TT rider for 2016 is very satisfying.

“Of course we would have liked to have won one of the Superbike races. However, the Superstock race is extremely important to us and to BMW Motorrad, as the S1000RR raced by Hutchy is very similar to the standard machine sold to customers to ride on the road.

“Although we enjoyed an extensive pre-season testing campaign, this was our first TT with Ian and his first on BMW machinery and, as expected, we learned a lot from the experience, which we can now put to good use.

“We enjoyed a largely trouble-free week, although a few small problems during the Superbike races did hamper Ian’s performance, although credit must go to our hard-working team once again."

Dunlop's 133.962mph was a new Senior TT lap record, and John McGuinness completed the podium alongside Hutchinson, with Bradford's Dean Harrison fourth on his Silicone Engineering Kawasaki to complete a solid week's work.

Harrison was also second in the Monster Energy Supersport and Superstock races on Monday and was third in Supersport race two on Wednesday.
