BRADFORD'S Dave Brook is seventh in the Thundersport GP1 standings on 185 points and fourth in the Superstock 1000 listings with 256 points after the latest round at Donington Park.

Only one weekend remains in the championships but it is at the Clayton Heights man's favourite track of Cadwell Park on October 16-18.

After hard work in deciding on the right lines at what is a very technical track, Brook qualified as the third fastest Superstock racer in 1min 34.7sec, despite struggling with traffic in what was the strongest field he had seen all year.

He said: "My mechanic Paul and I worked really hard on my lines throughout the test day on Friday.

"Most of my fellow competitors have considerably more race experience than me, so it was important that I knew exactly where I needed to be on the circuit if I was to ride my own race.

"It's vital to have a plan at a technical track like Donington Park but I was relaxed in qualifying, although I was a bit nervous for race one.

"I usually qualify poorly so having an advantage into turn one is not that familiar.

"However, I made a good start and made a place to second, giving it up to British Superbike regular Josh Day at turn four.

"That wasn't a problem though as it bridged a slowly increasing gap to the front. Unfortunately, on my first flying lap I had only used four gears along the pit straight and ended up in first gear in a 90mph corner. Not ideal!

"Fortunately I managed to control the slide but I had lost another position to another BSB regular in John Ingram.

"I tried to regain composure but, as I tensed up, I carried too much brake into turn eight and had a big front-end slide further knocking my confidence and spoiled the gap I had gained back to the second wave."

Brook berated himself afterwards for "seeing red mist and completely losing the plot", and the upshot was an eighth-placed finish.

Another good start meant that Brook was second going into turn one in the second race and, after a great tussle with Stephen Parsons, Adam Shelton and Adam Reavill, he finished fifth – just a bike length away from fourth.

After a delay caused by fog, Brook was again the second Superstock rider into turn one, holding off Day for a lap and John Ingram for half the race.

Third Superstock rider coming towards the end of the race, Brook was denied a podium position after a small mistake on the penultimate match led to former BSB and Spanish Superbikes rider Craig Neve.
