Bradford Olympic cycling ace Rob Thackray scored a comfortable victory in the Greetland Cyclo-Cross Race, winning by almost a minute from his nearest rival.

Thackray, opting to ride a local event rather than tackle the latest round of the National Trophy Series in Leicestershire, was a class apart and took victory by 52 seconds from Liverpool’s Rob Pugh of the FP Mailing Cycling Team.

Crosstrax rider Simon Mawdsley was third, another 36 seconds off the pace, while top veteran Paul Whatmough (Shepherd Cycles) was fourth.

East Bradford CC youngster Tom Jolley was edged out into second spot in the youth race, with Liverpool Century RC’s Dan Whelan winning that category.

Meanwhile, former British champion Chris Young, from Keighley, made a successful trip to Leicestershire for the penultimate round of the National Trophy Series.

He was second in the veterans’ over-40 category to Midlands rival Geoff Giddings of the MI Racing team.

There were good performances for Young’s team-mates on the JD Cycles team of Ilkley.

Oliver Webster crossed the line fifth in the junior race, just 35 seconds behind winner David Nichols of Glenedene CC, while Paul Young was sixth.

Yorkshire cyclo-cross action continues on Sunday with the eighth round of the Yorkshire Points Series at Thornes Park in Wakefield.
