CHAMPION cyclist Harry Ellison is targeting further success in the National Cyclo-Cross Series.

The 12-year-old from Oxenhope, a pupil at Hipperholme Grammar School, has wheeled his way to several honours this year

These include being crowned British Schools Cycling Association under-13 national and regional mountain bike champion.

Harry has ambitions of further glory on two wheels as he prepares to compete in the national under-14s category – with the full backing of his school.

Hipperholme head of PE Matt Crouchman said: "Harry's accolades in biking speak volumes of the talent he possesses. We are extremely proud of him and we hope for continued success for many seasons to come."

Mum Vikki Ellison has been delighted with Harry's successes so far and pleased that his school are supporting his sporting endeavours.

"We are very proud of Harry and his achievements. He trains very hard and puts every effort into his races.

"He gets great support at school, which has definitely helped him to prepare for the National Cyclo-Cross Series."

Harry, who finished second in the under-12s Yorkshire Cyclo-Cross Summer Series this year, begins his national quest for glory in Derby on October 8.

The Pedalsport Cycle Club member first took up the sport at the age of two and started taking it seriously as he got older following dad John's keen interest in the sport.

As well as having ambitions of moving up to Pedalsport's academy when he is old enough, Harry is now looking ahead to being a success on the road as well as in the classroom.

Mum Vikki, whose youngest son Noah, ten, also cycles, said: "He's such a strong-willed character. He is really good at working his cycling around his studying and really enjoys his time at Hipperholme Grammar School.

"We will encourage and support Harry as much as we can and hope he carries on progressing as much as he has been doing."
