KEIGHLEY'S premier cyclo-cross family have certainly made their mark in the North of England Championships and National Trophy Series.

Tom, Joe, Alfie and Sam Moses have all won both the one-off regional title and the Series, which is held over five rounds at different venues.

However, the HSBC British National Championships, which takes place at Bradford's Peel Park this weekend, has proved a tougher nut to crack.

Of the quartet of Oakworth brothers, only Tom has stood at the top of the podium, winning the junior men's title, also at Peel Park, in 2009.

He also finished second the following year in the same event at Sutton Coldfield, while Joe was third in the junior men in 2012 at Ipswich, and Alfie was a bronze medallist in the under-16s at Derby three years ago and a silver medallist in the junior men in 2015 at Abergavenny.

Oldfield-Paul Milnes rider Sam, who has already won the North of England Championships and the National Trophy Series this winter, is the only Moses competing at Peel Park.

However, he isn't expecting to add his name to the family's list of national champions.

The 16-year-old Beckfoot Oakbank pupil, who is in his first full season in the age group, explained: "I will be happy to finish in the top five as Tom Pidcock is the firm favourite."

Clubmate Pidcock, from Otley, is not only European champion but won a round of the Telenet UCI World Cup in Namur, Belgium last month by 50 seconds. He was third the previous month in another round in Zeven, Germany, and is a strong contender for the World Championships later this month in Bieles, Luxembourg.

Pidcock won the Hetton Lyons round of the National Trophy Series, when Moses was fifth but consistency helped Sam to take the overall title as he was also fourth at Ipswich and Abergavenny, fifth at Shrewsbury and eighth in the opening round in Derby.

Thomas Mein (Derwentside CC), Harry Yates (Hargroves-Ridley-Montezuma), Ben Turner (HMT with JLT Condor), Mark Donovan (Wheelbase Altura MGD), Dougal Toms (Iceni Velo), Ross Harnden (Malvern Cycle Sport), Dan Tulett (Specialized Racing), Matthew Ellis (Steve Poole Plant Hire) and Moses' team-mate Euan Cameron, from Bradford, are also expected to be in the mix for the medals.

Meanwhile, the Keighley district has plenty of interest across other categories at Peel Park this weekend.

East Morton-based Ian Field will be aiming to add the elite men's title to his national trophy series crown on Sunday. He warmed up for the event by winning the Novacross race at Knaresborough on New Year's Day, in which Ian Taylor also won the veterans category. The former Cononley resident will be aiming to become veteran national champion for the first time on Saturday, with Haworth's Andy Peace and former Bingley rider Rob Jebb also in the mix.

Field's girlfriend Annie Simpson, from Wilsden, will come up against her road race team-mate Hannah Payton in the women's elite race on Sunday.
