BRADFORD No1 AA

Thanks to everyone who attended last week's 139th annual general meeting. About 65 members attended and three rule changes were passed, with full details to appear in the 2018 yearbook. Alan Allcock and Jimmy Tingle have both joined the committee for next year. Matt Foster will take over as assistant secretary from Joan Atkinson, who stands down after carrying out the role for 34 years. Outgoing club president Simon Foster announced that a donation of £804 has been made by the club to the Bradford branch of the Macular Society from the president's charity fund. There will be a slight change to the way night permits for Knotford and Kirklees Lagoon are issued from next year. Existing permit holders will still have until January 31 to renew but any not renewed will be available through a waiting-list system. Members can join the waiting list by filling in a form printed in the 2018 yearbook and returning it to the license secretary. Due to a rule passed at the AGM, anyone joining the list must also be a 2017 yearbook holder. Membership for this year is still available at half price. Membership for 2018 is expected to be available from mid-December. High water levels greeted anglers on the rivers last weekend, with about 13 feet of extra water in the River Swale, but Dave Dolecki and David Worsfold both managed a couple of barbel from Thornton Bridge. Water temperatures on still waters have been dropping over the last few weeks but there have still been some great carp caught from club waters this week. Richard Wood has caught the carp known as 'Wonky' for a second time this year from Kirklees Lagoon, this time weighing 33lb 4oz. That is a weight gain of 3lb 8oz in three months – and it was again caught on a Calder Valley bait. Dan Whitaker has also had one of the big old fish from Knotford, catching 'Sunken Eyes' at 28lb. This was followed by two of the newer VS fish, with the biggest at 21lb 14oz. Tickets are available for the open match on the River Nidd at Cowthorpe (not Roecliffe as in the yearbook) on Sunday, November 12 from Simon on 01274-571175. The River Swale at Maunby and Gatenby will be closed on Saturday for a RSPS match and the River Ouse at Widdington will be closed on Sunday.

SKIPTON AA

Skipton Winter League competitors got among the fish last Sunday as they fished the third match in this season's series on the Long Ing length of the canal at Barnoldswick. Conditions were generally good, with just a blustery wind affecting a few of the 18 pegs. Unfortunately, apart from one or two decent skimmers, all catches consisted of small roach, perch, ruffe and gudgeon and the weights were correspondingly lower than average for this normally productive venue. Results – Individual: 1 Kenny Wright 1010g (a few decent roach and a small pike), 2 Rob Thornton 920g, 3 Dave Fenn 730g (one good skimmer), 4 Russell Heaton 690g, 5 Roy Veevers 580g, 6 Bob Fenn 450g. Pairs: 1 Thornton & Wright 1930g, 2 D & R Fenn 1180g, 3 Aldis & Heaton 900g, 4= Brown & Davenport, Chenier & Waterfall, Eason & Veevers 580g. Leading positions in leagues – Individuals: 1 Dave Fenn 9pt, 2 Keith Brown 19, 3 Jason Aldis 21, 4 Graeme Waterfall 22, 5= Kenny Wright, Bob Fenn 27, 7= Rob Thornton, Russell Heaton 28, 9 Bill Davenport. Pairs: 1 D & R Fenn 7pt, 2 Aldis & Heaton 8, 3= Brown & Davenport, Chenier & Waterfall 13, 5 Thornton & Wright 15, 6= Ramsbotham & Young, Thomas & Wharton 19. The next match will be fished on Sunday, October 29 and will be pegged either side of the road bridge near the Bay Horse Inn at Snaygill.

BRADFORD & DISTRICT SEA AC

Any rule changes must be brought to the attention of the secretary at or before the annual meeting on Tuesday, November 21. We have a trip to Hartlepool aboard 'Lone Shark' on Wednesday, November 8 and there are one or two places left. If you would like to go, call the trip secretary on 07711-987833 to book a place. Our last trip was to Whitby aboard Richard Ward's boat 'Shy Torque 2000' and was a very good outing. Steve Adams had the best day among the group of members with 15 fish, including cod to 10lb 5oz. Richard Spencer from Skipton caught the heaviest fish, a ling weighing 12lb 4oz. He also bagged a couple of nice cod to around the 10lb mark. The lads ended up with around 50 white fish between them for the day.
