BRADFORD No 1 AA

IT'S been a great week on the carp fishing front, with two fish over 30lb being caught from two different waters within a few days of each other, meaning that we have new leaders for both carp cups.

The first was caught by Craig Biss from Knotford at 31lb 14oz, just 2oz ahead of the previous best, which was a different fish. This carp was one of the fish stocked last winter and has been showing good weight gains since being caught after spawning in June at 25lb.

This was followed a few days later by news that Mick Batley had caught the fish known as 'Wonky' from Kirklees Lagoon at 31lb 9oz, up nearly 2lb from when Richard Wood caught it little over a month before.

The capture came on a Calder Valley Baits spicy fish pop-up over a spot Mick had been feeding regularly for about a month. The deadline for the Carp Cups is at the end of this month, so that they can be presented at the annual meeting. Bailiff Dan Whitaker had a red-letter day at Knotford on Sunday, catching 13 carp between 14lb and 25lb, two bream and a tench.

Ticket sales are going well for the annual Calder Championship on Sunday, September 17, which carries a first prize of £500. They can still be booked from Simon on the above number or from Tackle 2U in Bradford.

At the polo pond, a few mid double-figure carp have been caught, with Roy getting two in a session. At Osprey Lake, E Harrison got a carp of 13lb on pole tackle. With the temporary closure of the Pool Bridge Garage, day tickets can now be obtained from the post office at Pool.

SKIPTON AA

Just under four weeks remains of the brown-trout season, which closes on rivers from Sunday, October 1. Certain enclosed waters that do not provide spawning facilities no longer enforce the close season for brownies but check your club rules to be on the safe side.

The River Aire has not produced a really big specimen this year but even so, fish up to 1800g have been landed on the stretch from Skipton to Gargrave, mainly to fly fishermen. The river is currently in ideal angling condition and could yield a record fish in the final few days.

Coarse fish (grayling and chub) have been making up some good catches lately, although most have been on the small side. One fish that was certainly no tiddler was the fine pike landed by Farrell Millington from the Skipton AA water at Snaygill. The fish weighed 7.27 kg and was a personal best for the young angler.

Embsay Reservoir has been fishing very well of late, with good catches of the many varieties of trout and also some decent perch. For details about where to fish at Embsay and what methods/baits/lures to use, visit the Skipton AA’s Facebook Groups page.

Whinnygill Reservoir continues to fish very well, and anglers have reported some good bags of fish, including big roach, bream and orfe from most sides of the water. Perch and trout are also turning up but tench and carp have become harder to locate.

Whinnygill will be the venue for this Sunday’s final match of the four-match Peter Hart Memorial Series, draw 8am, fishing 9am-noon, entry for members only.

A week on Sunday, the Craven Winter League will start its eight-match series on the Swine Lane length of the canal at Riddlesden. Registration takes place at the first two matches only at a cost of £7, and match fees are £8 per match. Draw 8am and the matches are rhree hours' duration. Full details are available from Bill Davenport on 01756-799671 or 07581-082576.

BRADFORD PALS AC

Result of last Sundays match at Lindholme Lakes (Loco Lake): 1 Bernard Hook 86lb 3oz, 2 Paul Whitehouse 77lb 0oz, 3 Alan Lynn 63lb 10oz, 4 Steve Chambers 59lb 3oz. Well done to Bernard Hook, Sir Terry Richards, Pete Milner and Andy Clough for getting through to the final of the club knockout. A special mention to Pete Fraser, who managed to set up on his peg but on the wrong lake!

Our next match is on Sunday, October 15 at Birkwood Farm on the main lake. Anyone who will not be fishing this match must notify the match secretary by Sunday, October 8 or they will be charged a peg fee.

SALTAIRE AA

Our president and life member Geoff Lumb has passed away after a short illness. Geoff was a long-standing committee member who filled various roles throughout the years. Our condolences go to his family. Tong Park continues to improve, with good nets of perch and tench coming to a number of anglers. The weed situation looks to be vastly improved from previous years and we will continue with this work.

The river on all lengths is fishing well, with some very good chub and barbel coming to the net. Anglers are remind to please remove their litter and any other which they find on the club's waters. Anyone found to be leaving litter will be leaving the club.

CLAYTON AC

Result of match on August 28 at Raker Lakes (17 fished): 1 Steff Armitage 82lb 10oz, 2 Chris Slinger 68lb 2oz, 3 Bryan Ashton 40lb 12oz. Section winners: Steve Charger, Ricky Malone, Colin Mortimer. Tomorrow's match is the Con Club Annual Trophy at Poppleton Lakes, draw 8.30am, fishing 9.30am-3.30pm. Presentation and buffet in Con Club from 7pm. To book on, call Murgy, Ray or Steff.

BINGLEY AC
Sunday's match at Settler Dam has been cancelled. The rain this week will have freshened up the rivers and should be worth trying. One member has reported having 25 small chub from the River Aire last week on a short evening session.

CENTRAL AC

Our last match is at Tollerton on Sunday, September 10, meet at venue 8am, fishing 9am-3pm.
