There have been a lot of good carp caught over the last week from Knotford, Kirklees, Harold Park and Queen Mary's Ponds. These catches include a 15lb 2oz common carp by Jay Davies from Harold Park and a double-figure common carp caught from Ripon by Paul Horner, fishing with light tackle for bream.

There have been a number of large fish caught from the club's river stretches, the largest being a 10lb barbel by David Worsfold on the River Swale at Thornton Bridge. Andrew Fieldhouse has again been catching from the River Nidd at Cowthorpe, this time an 8lb 3oz barbel. There has also been chub over 5lb caught from Cowthorpe and the River Swale at Maunby by Brian Jones and Simon Foster.

Our 2017 yearbooks have now been collected in from tackle shops ready for audit but membership can still be purchased on the club website or from Simon Freer (07714-662783). A pair of glasses have been found at Raskelf. Contact Simon (01274-571175) to claim them.

BRADFORD CITY AA

Last week our column mistakenly implied that we fish at Tyersal Ponds, where there is a confirmed KHV infection which is lethal to carp. This is not true and we apologise for any confusion. The weather has been mixed this week, with warm sunshine plus showers and bands of heavy rain. All Dales rivers have been at elevated levels, with coloured water impacting somewhat on trout-fishing opportunities but being welcomed by barbel anglers. More showers forecast for the end of this week are likely to have a similar impact. We do not have any reports this week from our still-water coarse fisheries at Shipton, Staveley and Oakworth but the rivers have been producing the goods. Stephen Brown had a 9lb barbel from the Swale at Topcliffe and David Alloway, making his first trip to our fishery on the Ure at Lower Dunsforth, had a 7.5lb barbel and a 5.5lb bream. Earlier this month, David also had a double-figure barbel at Topcliffe. Trout and grayling anglers have been successful on our River Aire fisheries. Stephen Cheetham had a personal-best grayling of about 2lb on a size 18 Griffiths Gnat fished near the railway bridge over the Aire at Broughton, while Jon Grey had a very productive two-hour session on an adjacent stretch, with 14 trout between 8oz and 2lb on a dry fly, all safely returned. Jon – with Phil Bailey – has also been repairing flow deflectors, removing Himalayan Balsam, creating new in-stream structures and pinning back willows. On the back of that river rehab' work, and despite coloured water, he reported at least 100 fish rising to a tremendous black gnat hatch. We also suggest anglers carry a few dry stonefly patterns to take advantage of the major stonefly hatches. Given the high and coloured water, club members may like to try our subsidised day tickets for two of Colne Rivers' AC still-water trout fisheries, available via online shop links. This week has seen another two KHV reports from non-BCAA fisheries at Beverley and near Preston. All anglers need to take careful clean-check-dry precautions to prevent this disease spreading to our waters. A keep-net ban continues to be in place on all our fisheries as a further precaution. There will be a working party at Shipton Lake this weekend, with help desperately needed. Contact Terry Duncalf on 07988-681654 if you can assist, or turn up at 9am. Result of RS Escott Memorial Match at Staveley Small Lake last weekend: 1 Sam Braithwaite (peg ten) 15lb 14oz, 2 Barry Newby (peg seven) 15 lb 11oz, both mixed nets of fish. Our next match will be the Boroughbridge Gala on Saturday, August 26 to be fished on the Ure at Lower Dunsforth. To book a place, and for further information, call Rodney Brooksbank on 07875-275749.
