CHRIS Willey had a week to remember for his club as he played a major role in victories for both Baildon A and B in the Bradford League.

Willey stepped up a division to play for Baildon A in their home fixture against Division Two leaders Highdale B and helped seal a 6-4 victory.

The visitors were without Gary and James Foster – and Baildon took full advantage.

Ian Warner led the charge with three wins, while Peter Warner overcame George Bak.

Willey had lost his opening encounter to Phil Mann but stepped up to the plate with a crucial 11-8 fifth-game verdict against Mick Kosmowsky.

Then, in the final singles with Baildon leading 5-3, he clinched overall victory with a 3-0 success against Bak, condemning Highdale to only their second defeat of the season.

The following evening, Willey was back in the Baildon B line-up as they faced second-placed Hermits G in Division Three and won 7-3.

Baildon had lost twice to Hermits already this season but Willey did not feature in either defeat and he certainly made a difference in the third meeting.

Willey did not drop a game in taking his three singles, while Steve Crossland took two and John Atkinson added a single as the B team triumphed.

In the Yorkshire League, Bradford Veterans' second team are in a strong position to take a top-two place as the season reaches its climax.

Bradford have ten points from five matches and are in second place at the moment, with Doncaster also on ten points but from six games.

Crucially for Bradford, York-2 – who are third – have nine points from six matches and can only reach 11 points.

Bradford will be guaranteed the title if they win their last two fixtures, while one win will be enough for second place.
