HERMITS G moved top of Division Three in the Bradford League following a hard-fought derby victory over stablemates Hermits F.

The G team had the edge when it came to close finishes as they won all four of the matches that went the distance.

The first two encounters set the tone as the G team took them both in five games. Kath Manogue beat Chris Town 11-9 in the decider and Terry Halliday pipped Michael Butler 11-8 in their settler.

The F team stayed in contention as Butler won twice and Town once and at 4-3 down they were still in with a shout. But the G team finished as they started by taking the last three.

Halliday completed an unbeaten evening by clinching the points in the last singles, beating Town 11-7 in the fifth, and the G team also took the doubles in five for a 7-3 success.

There was another Hermits derby in Division Four and Hermits H took the honours 8-2 against Hermits I.

Norman Swift led the way for the H team with three wins and he was backed up by Stewart Varley and Geoff Parkes, who won twice each. Brian Cooper won two for the I team and both teams are vying for a promotion place.

In Division Two, Yeadon B secured their first victory of the season at the expense of Bailon A.

New signing Mark Griffin took the individual honours with three singles and Mick Burton and Tony Lupton won twice each as Yeadon won 7-3.

Yorkshire League action saw Bradford Veterans' second team make it two wins out of two with a fine performance against a strong Keighley line-up.

Richard Aitken and Fazal Hussain were both unbeaten and Shamir Bose won twice as Bradford triumphed 8-2.
