THORNBURY collected the Tony Theobould Trophy after a comfortable victory over Division Three runners-up Baildon A in the final.

In recent seasons, Thornbury have relied heavily on David Wilson, but they are a much improved trio this season and, armed with a 102-point start, this was always going to be a tough test for Baildon.

Kaleem Afzal has improved a great deal for Thornbury, and set the tone in the opening set by taking a game from Baildon No 1 Tim Williams, losing by only seven points.

He also held Chris Willey to just a five-point deficit and defeated Peter Warner by eight points.

Wilson and Mohammed Humzah also won crucial games to restrict Baildon, and Thornbury ran out winners by 51 points.

The unfortunate Warner has now appeared in four Theobould finals and been a runner-up in all of them!

The Burton Cup final between Embassy Police A and Highdale A had to be postponed due to a bout of food poisoning in the Highdale camp.

In the Yorkshire League, Bradford Veterans' second team had to settle for third place in Division Two after rivals Wakefield and York Seconds won their final matches.
