THE Bradford League season is entering the final third and for Baildon the prospect of a haul of silverware is a distinct possibility.

Baildon A are chasing Hermits G at the top of Division Three and although Hermits are favourites, runners-up spot is on the cards. Tim Williams and Peter Warner are leading the Baildon charge and are both in the top five in the averages.

In Division Four, Baildon have three teams and the B side are out in front and odds on for the title, having dropped only one point so far.

Baildon C are in contention for second place, along with Hermits J and Thornbury. Steve Crossland currently leads the way in the averages for the B team, while team-mate John Atkinson and Jerry Harkawy from Baildon C are both in the top four.

The club are also in contention for the Tony Theobould Trophy, with three teams in the last eight.

Baildon have done consistently well in the handicap competition over the years and in the quarter-finals their A team are at home to Unity A, Baildon C are at promotion rivals Thornbury and Baildon D travel to Rastrick.

There is certainly much to play for at Baildon in the coming weeks.

Division Four promotion rivals Hermits J and Thornbury were involved in a see-saw tussle which ended all square at 5-5 in the latest round of fixtures.

Hermits looked certain winners after building up a 5-2 lead, with Brian Cooper unbeaten. John Margerison and Stuart Stead both had wins over the luckless David Wilson, who recorded a rare blank after losing all his singles in close five-game affairs.

But Kaleem Afzal and Mohammed Humzah stepped up to the plate for Thornbury by winning twice each – and they also took the doubles in straight games for a share of the points.
