BRADFORD Veterans' second team are involved in an exciting three-way battle for honours in Division Two of the Yorkshire League.

They are in pole position with six points from four matches, while York-2 are second with three wins out of three and Wakefield are third with five points from three matches.

Fazal Hussain has featured in all of Bradford's matches so far and has a healthy return of eight wins out of 12.

His side suffered their only defeat against York but bounced back with an impressive away win against a strong Keighley line-up.

The hosts fielded Fred Yeung, Shamir Bose and Rod Robertson and were soon 3-1 up but Bradford, with Richard Aitken from Hermits making his debut, hit back and took the last six sets for a 7-3 success.

Aitken took all three, while the consistent Hussain added two more with Andy Braithwaite supplying a single.

Bradford have two matches left, with a crucial home encounter against Wakefield next and they finish at Harrogate in March.

Their fate is in their own hands as two wins for Bradford will guarantee a top-two place and could help them finish top.

In the Bradford League, there was a fine individual performance from Lee Matthews of Baildon D.

Matthews is a recent acquisition and won all three against promotion-chasing Baildon C in the Division Four derby.

The D team threatened an upset when Dave Rudley added a single to Matthews' treble and they were level at 4-4, before the C team emerged victorious as Shirley Toulmin and Jerry Harkawy took two each.

John Jennison added one and Toulmin and Harkawy scrambled home 11-8 in the fifth game to give the C team a 6-4 victory.
