FASTBATS B are off the bottom rung of the Division Two ladder in the Bradford Table Tennis League following their first home victory of the season against Highdale B.

The visitors were unbeaten on their travels so far and it needed an all-round team effort from Fastbats to break their home duck.

In the first half of the match it was Helen Shields who gave them the edge, with wins over Geoff Barnes and Mick Kosmowsky, while Neil Foley beat George Bak as Fastbats led 3-2.

It was Keith Smith who edged them nearer to the finishing line as he made it 4-2 with a 13-11 deciding-game verdict against Barnes before enjoying another tense encounter against Kosmowsky.

Smith was 2-1 down before winning the last two games 13-11, 14-12 to make it 5-3, leaving Foley to clinch the points with another five-game success against Barnes.

Unity A turned in a fine performance in Division Two to register an impressive 8-2 success at Hermits C.

Dave Rawlins led the Unity charge as they raced into a 7-0 lead.

Rawlins was unbeaten and had good support from Neil Harris and Steve Whitaker, who won two each.

In Division One, Highdale A made it six wins out of wins after beating Embassy Police B 8-2.

The score was a little harsh on Embassy as five of the ten sets went the distance but trebles from Richard Whiteley and Peter Morgan tipped the scales, and Graham Manicom chipped in with a single.
