EMBASSY Police A continued their domination of the Bradford League by completing a league and cup double for the second successive season following their Burton Cup triumph against Dewsbury Tog.

Police are unbeaten in the league and were favourites to win against Tog, who needed Richard Lightowler to shine if they were to have any chance of an upset.

Lightowler had won five out of six matches in the league against Police but their hopes were soon dampened as the defending champions made a fast start.

Tim Dyson was too strong for Steve Kosmowsky in the opening set and Shayan Siraj made it two against Lightowler. James Hobson followed that with victory over Nick Ryder and at 3-0 it was almost game over.

Lightowler pulled one back against Dyson before Hobson made it 4-1 against Kosmowsky – and although Rider delayed the inevitable with a win over Siraj, the champions were not to be denied as man-of-the-match Hobson sealed a 5-2 victory against Lightowler.

Meanwhile, Baildon A were also on the double trail when they faced Baildon C in the Tony Theobould Trophy final.

The A team have a 100 per cent league record, and had two resounding victories over the C team, but the handicap competition is a great leveller and the C team had a point to prove.

Baildon C had a 48-point start and for John Jennison in particular, league form was turned upside down.

In the two league meetings, the unfortunate Jennison had lost all six singles and not taken a game but he was to prove the thorn in the side of the A team.

The opening set was shared as Peter Warner and Jerry Harkawy drew 38-38 before Jennison set the tone for the C team with a 41-33 victory over John Atkinson.

Dave Thomas had a nine-point win against David Rudley for the A team but Harkawy beat Atkinson 41-27 as the C team rose to the occasion.

And although Warner overcame Rudley in set five, Jennison struck another hammer blow by beating Thomas 41-28 and the A team never recovered as Baildon C ran out winners by 50 points.
