YEADON Flyers A climbed to third in Division 1A of the Bradford League after Deo Jones inspired them to victory at Highdale A.

When the teams met in January, Yeadon were well beaten – but they gained swift revenge against a strong Highdale line-up.

Flyers made a great start, going 4-1 up as Jones recorded wins over Richard Whiteley and Peter Morgan, while Joel Bhowmick also beat Morgan and Michael Chang surprised Whiteley.

Highdale reduced the arrears to 4-3 but Jones completed his treble against Stephen Arliss and combined with Chang to clinch the match, taking the doubles at 11-6 in the fifth game.

In Division 2B, Pudsey B and Rastrick are locked in mid-table, so it was no surprise when the teams played out a 5-5 draw in a contrasting fixture.

Pudsey led 4-1 as Alex Waring took two wins, with Maurice Wrigley and Steve Smith both beating Peter Mitchell.

But Rastrick recovered as Mick Whitham and Brian Banks won twice each, Banks taking the last singles from 2-1 down against Smith and then joining Whitham to seal the doubles 11-7 in the decider.

Unity E scraped home 6-4 in an exciting Division 3A finish against promotion-seeking Baildon C.

The teams shared the first eight sets, with Shirley Toulmin and Jerry Harkawy taking two each for Baildon.

Hughie Chambers won twice for Unity, while Michael Walker and Peter Jackson added one each.

In the last singles, Walker pipped John Jennison 11-8 in the fifth game – and Unity clinched victory as Walker and Jackson recovered from 2-0 down to triumph 11-9 in the decider.
