Baildon D have been the whipping boys in Division Five of the Bradford Table Tennis League so far with a run of ten straight defeats but it was high fives all round after their first win of the season at the expense of Baildon C.

There were also family bragging rights at stake as teenage brothers Josiah and Joseph Nix were on opposite sides.

The C team looked likely to increase the losses column for their clubmates when they led 3-1 as the experienced Ken Fletcher won his opening two singles and Joseph Nix beat Allen Pollard. Thirteen-year-old Josiah replied for the D team and, after David Taylor had reduced the deficit, the brothers locked horns and the younger Josiah prevailed 11-7 in the fifth game to level the match at 3-3.

Fletcher took all three for the C team but Taylor and Pollard put Baildon D 5-4 ahead and these two added the doubles for that elusive first win.
