CLECKHEATON'S Lois Toulson won two gold medals and a bronze at the British National Diving Cup in Plymouth.

The former Whitcliffe Mount pupil took a surprise gold in the mixed ten-metre synchro with City of Leeds clubmate Matty Lee, defeating home club members Tom Daley and Tonia Couch.

Toulson and Lee were behind after the first round but scored 78.72 for both of their last dives to leave them ahead.

Lee said: "That was our first time. We haven't had much training together, even though we both live in Leeds. We've literally only done two sessions together. We dived pretty well, so we're really happy."

Toulson added: "We talk about anything. I get really nervous, so we just spoke about what we're going to eat tonight to take my mind off of it – and it paid off."

The pair finished with a back two-and-a-half somersaults with one-and-a-half twists piked for a total of 335.04 points, Couch and Daley finishing with 304.26 points.

Olympians Couch and Toulson then won the ten-metre synchro after scoring 294.24. They posted a huge 73.92 for their two-and-a-half somersaults with one-and-a-half twists piked in the penultimate round.

Silver went to former City of Bradford Esprit member Ruby Bower and Pheobe Banks (City of Leeds) with 264.60.

Toulson took bronze in the women's ten-metre platform with 281.40, behind Southampton Diving's Gemma McArthur (310.80) and Dive London's Shanice Lobb (304.80).
